2011 Cruise, Page D, St. Maarten/St. Martin

Sunrise approaching St. Maarten / St. Martin

Solarium, Deck 11

Part of Philipsburg. The businesses in town were closed since it was Good Friday.

On the Adventure we were told not to leave clothes hanging outside, though passengers still did. This is to avoid fires if someone throws a lit cigarette overboard and it comes back into one of the balconies. I thought this was funny. This person on the Arcadia had a clothes line on their balcony. As we began to dock the individual came out and removed the garments as fast as he could!

Above - The staff getting the gangway ready. They did it quickly and efficiently! They repeated the steps in reverse when the ship gets ready to leave. And this is repeated in each port! Right - Do I look scared or what?

Orient Beach, St. Martin (French side)

The only stores opened were on the pier.

Nudity allowed on beach!

Back on board; looking at pool area from inside ship

No doubt they are British!

The Arcadia, P&O cruises, leaving port. We will not see her again.

The sun hiding behind clouds
It rained while we were on the beach.

Leaving Philipsburg, St. Maarten

Sunset

At left - An elephant made from towels. A few different animals were made during the cruise. At right - A post card of an airplane (with others in inset) landing at the St. Maarten airport. Can you imagine being on the beach as one of these jets is landing or taking off? The card is copyrighted by Editions Exbrayar, photography by Cyril Exbrayar.
Parasailing. Blue was for one person, pink for two.
The Arcadia entering the harbor. The harbor has been expanded since my last visit. During my first visit to St. Maarten only one ship could dock at the pier. All other cruise ships had to anchor in the harbor and tender passengers to Front Street, Philipsburg.
Looks calm, right? It wasn't. A huge wave hit us over, knocked our glasses off. Not a great experience! Luckily, I had a 2nd pair. Elton was not that lucky.
