Trafalgar's Scenic Parks Explorer, June 2013 - Page A

My sister María and I decided to go on a tour of the National Parks.  We flew to Las Vegas on Delta on
June 17th .   We arrived after 10 a.m. so we decided to tour the Strip and play in a few casinos.  No luck in
the casinos!  The Strip has changed a lot since my 1996  visit.  The evening of June 17th, we met our Tour
Director and the other members of the tour.  There were 50 passengers in all.  There were passengers
from all over the United States, plus Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Great Britain.
  By the end of the
trip we would have visited Arizona, Utah, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota and Colorado.
Due to a wrong turn, we also drove through the Village of Henry in Nebraska!

The windows could only open about 3 inches.
Not easy taking photos.

If I am not mistaken, in 1996 the Strip had 2 sidewalks parallel to each other.  One was able to go from one
hotel / casino to the next with no problem.  Not so now.  Sometimes to get from one side of the street to the
next one had to climb stairs, go through a hotel, and/or use an overpass, etc.   There is now a tram that goes from
hotel to hotel and a bus that goes up and down the Strip, plus other services.  Many hotels now open were being
built when I visited in 1996.

Since some of the photos were taken from inside the bus,
at times you will see a reflection from the window.
On June 18th, we left Las Vegas and headed to Zion National Park.
We drove through part of Arizona to get to Utah.
You like golf?  We passed many golf courses.

I think it was explained that the D on hills referred to
Dixie, like in Dixie University.  St. George, Utah.

I think I took this photo in Jackson.
Don't know why it's here!

Zion National Park.
In 1996 there were not as many buildings in the park and there were no buses taking visitors from area to area.

Me on the left.  Photo on the right - The hole in the middle rock and the two photos that follow are vents for the
tunnel  (Mt. Carmel) that cuts through the rock formation further up.  Traffic was closely monitored since tunnel was
only handling cars going in one direction at a time.

Also see 1996 pages (A through I) for other photos of the National Parks.
Bagatelle and Tropicana.  We stayed in the Tropicana.
